Coins, Currency, and Stamps in Notebooks {50 Things Series}
This blog series is a result of the very popular post 50 Things to Put in a Notebook. I am working through the list, showing you in more detail how you can use each one of those things on your notebooking pages.
Fifty Things to Put into a Notebook: #3 Coins, Currency, and Postage Stamps
Coins, currency, and stamps fall into the category of realia — real things– that you can add to notebooks. Over the years, we have occasionally used them on our own notebooking pages. Here are some examples.
Inside a 50 States Notebook
When my daughter studied American history, she made a 50 states notebook, adding a new page for each state as it entered the Union in our chronological study. At the front of that notebook, she also did some study of American coins and dollar bill, outlining some of the features and symbolism.
We used hot glue to affix the coins directly to the cardstock. They can easily be removed without defacing the coins in any way.
For the dollar bills, instead of destroying the bills with adhesive, we used pages specially made for holding stamps which we then slid into a page protector. Our pages were something like this product.
In History Notebooks (or Lapbooks)
Replicas of historic coins are great for history notebooks. Here are some examples from lapbooks that my daughter made. Although these are lapbooks, the idea is the same for a notebook. To hold them in, we stapled some clear plastic taken from a package of some sort onto cardstock.
The coins below were in a lapbook about the Middle Ages. We repurposed a clear DVD sleeve to hold the coins in the lapbook.
If you have ever found your notebooks growing boring, just stay tuned to this series as you see how varied they can be. There are at least fifty different ways!
