If you are thinking towards winter birding, this will be a great free printable for your nature journals or nature notebooks. This colorful page is designed for recording the number of birds you observe. Along the top, write the names of the birds that are common in your backyard. Then use tally marks to count them each day. This page is great practice for the Great Backyard Bird Count which is in February each year.

Of course, you can use the chart in different ways. Instead of counting birds, you can label the columns with the food in your various feeders and identify which birds eat what kind. Maybe you want to observe bird behavior. Use your imagination and let the free printable page be a tool to help your young naturalists record what they see.

As always, I love to hear when you use the free printables from The Notebooking Fairy in your homeschool. If you send me photos, I will feature you in a Show Off post.

This is so much more appealing than the chart we used last year! Perfect timing, too, as the blue jays and cardinals are very busy in our backyard this month. Thanks Jimmie!
